I've lived in Lake Tahoe for more than twenty years and I can tell you Lake Tahoe is the perfect place for family photos.
Every season has something different to offer as a backdrop for your photos.
If you're taking a summer vacation, family photos on the shore of Lake Tahoe is the way to go. Personally, there is no better place than Tahoe for the summer. The weather is the goldie-locks temperature; not too hot and not too cold, but just right. Photographs of the kids playing in the sand, and soaking up the sun as a family are the precious photos. As a local, I know of a few locations that won't be as crowded, making your photo session a little bit more private.

Or maybe you're taking a weekend trip up to Tahoe in the Fall to see the autumn colors. Besides the East Coast, Lake Tahoe does have some outstanding fall foliage. Most families wait until Fall for their family photos to use for their Christmas Cards. I don't blame them since how much color the trees put off. If you want Fall family photos in Lake Tahoe, it can be tricky to plan when the tree color will be in peak, but be sure to plan ahead due to high demand!
If you are taking a winter family vacation to hit the slopes, photographs in the snow are like the Hallmark magic! Bundled up in all the layers, with red noses and building a snowman, having a snowball fight or cuddled up as a family; are all good photo ops. My favorite is when the pine trees have a fresh coat of snow on them, it makes the most picturesque background in photos.
Tahoe doesn't have cherry blossoms in the spring. But just an hour away, Reno, Nevada does have spring time pink cherry blossoms. Spring in Lake Tahoe is a bit unpredictable with the weather; it can be a winter white out type of day, or a day warm enough to lay out on the beach! However it is a great season to dress in those spring pastel colors, which photograph so beautifully.
